I have a Zenith Trans-Oceanic model 3000-1 transistor portable that starts off playing nicely, and the audio gradually starts fading out and getting distorted. I have restored many tube radios and a problem like this is usually coupling capacitors, is this usually typical in transistors, also? I also wonder if the output transistors could be on their way out, and how "available" they are, or if anyone knows of substitute transistors that are available for this set. Also, if anyone has a schematic or service info for it. Maybe Childhood Radio can offer a recap kit for it, we'll see! Thanks, Dave

Hi, almost certainly a cap., I would think. You could put put a signal tracer onto the appropriate points immediately after switch-on and then after fading occurs.
I have all the details for this set in a TSM - several pages.
If you'd like a scan of the schematic, let me have an email address.
Best.
