If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it! During the course of moving, I discovered my Trans-Solar that my father gave me when I was a little guy. It is in pretty good shape, but it doesn't play so I figured, what the heck I'll give re-cappping a shot. So I bought the kit and opened it up. I can see that a component has been broken off the circuit board..a resistor probably. Perhaps seeing a photo of the board someone could tell me what component I need. I would love to get her playing again! Thanks!!!!!!!!!! http://img213.imageshack.us/my.php?image=transsolar2vv5.jpg http://img100.imageshack.us/my.php?image=transsolar1dg4.jpg

Hi from Italy. The component you need is a detector diode. The original diode listed in the schematic is the 1N295 or 1N64. On next week I'll take some photos of the schematic and I'll e-mail them for you if you give me your e-mail address. Ciao = Cheers Lello

Dear Lello...Grazie!!! I received all the photos and I know they will help me greatly. May I ask you another question? Do you know what would be an equivalent to the 1N295 or 1N64? I hope you can help me but if you are too busy I understand. Thank you again for your help Ciao! Reymund

Lello, It's me again! Sorry to bother you. Would the 1N4148 work? http://www.fairchildsemi.com/ds/1N/1N4148.pdf

Chip, The NTE equivalent is NTE109...see http://nte01.nteinc.com/nte/NTExRefSemiProd.nsf/$$SearchLooks like someone really wanted the Raytheon diode that was in there...they broke the circuit board while ripping it out. jim

Hi Reymund. You don't bother me. I only must find the time for responding to my numerous e-mail messages I receive daily. In replacing a dector diode I normally use the same kind of diode: in this case a germanium and a detector diode. I don't know if the the 1N4148 would be work. I would try it if no other diode I had. Old germanium diodes are still easily to find, new and never used too. Thanks to Jim for his suggestion. Ciao. Lello

Hi, I need help with a Silvertone 1027. The battery clips are ruined and have to be replaced. It looks like it takes a 9 volt, but the one clip that I scraped down to metal is just a little to big for the standard 9 volt. Does anyone know what battery it uses? Thanks for any help.

Hi Chip, The Hoffman 706 Became my first real transistor radio when I was six years old in 1961 for Christmas So it is my favorite. I have several, including the very first one I got. I have one that I use for parts, the cabinet has been very badly treated. If you need any unique parts please feel free to email or send me a message. Regards, Richard

Hi Richard. Recently I purchased this Hoffman 706 solar radio. Unfortunatelly the solar panel seems to be not working. The voltage between the two ends of the solar panel is less than 500 millivolt (mV) with the daily light. Under a light of the fluorescent lamp of my workbench, the voltage rises up to 1,800 mV. This is the maximum value of the voltage. Since the radio operate on 4 volt (V), I deduce the Solar Panel unfortunatelly is not woking. Do you have in your spare parts-set this part in good working condition for sale or trade? Even the speaker crackles. Do you have a good speaker for this radio too? Thanks a lot. Ciao = Cheers.Lello For direct contact please, e-mail to: lellosalvatore@inwind.it
