Greetings,

My Hallicrafter SX-99 Band Spread broke and I am going to attempt to re-string on my own.

Three questions -

1. How do i remove the "antenna trimmer", "crystal phasing", and "res-standby" knobs on the SX-99 to remove the front panel? I have a torx screwdriver for the other knobs.

2. Any tips, diagrams, drawings, or string suggestions for re-stringing a Hallicrafter SX-99?

3. In "Section 4 / 4-5 Dial Cord Restringing" of the manual it says "tuning and band spread gangs fully meshed". What does "fully meshed" exactly mean?

I have the owners manual for Hallicrafters SX-99 receiver from ftp://bama.sbc.edu/downloads/hallicra/sx99/. Sadly, it does not say how to do these things.

I read on another post that Radio Shack selld dial string. True?

Thanks so much in advance!

We will need your email address in order to reach you that way. Please post it.

Fully meshed means the plates are "inside" of one another.

Don't know about the removal question. Perhaps somebody else can help.

BTW: Here's a place where folks can download a free copy of the SX-99 manual including dial stringing info:

http://www.rigpix.com/hallicrafter/sx99.htm

There are many other downlaodable docs on the main site:

Thanks for the info Ron.

I am the poster of this original message.

I posted on a few websites and got some instruction.

I am all good now. Barring any unforseen problems.

Thanks again.

Hi. I just got a Hallicraftes SX-99 receiver. It worked fine for a few days and then something just happened. The audio output to the speaker dropped very low and the S-meter became pinned in a negative S-position. I then replaced all eight tubes and the problem continues. Please help!
